Christian Seth (also: Kristian Sethus, Shet, Sicht ; * Königsberg (Prussia) ; † 1699 in Bischofstein ) was a German lawyer.

Life

Christian Seth was probably the son of the citizen of Königsberg's old town Urban Seth (* May 6, 1599; † July 16, 1644), who married Gertrud, daughter of Johann Ackersdieck, on November 23, 1626. Together with his brother Michael he was matriculated at the University of Königsberg on June 18, 1635 and then studied at various other universities in Germany, Belgium, England and France. He had trained to be a competent lawyer and earned the degree of Doctor of Law. After returning to his Prussian homeland, in 1668 he became an associate professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Königsberg, in 1669 he became a second full professor, associated with the Assessor of the Samland Consistory , and in 1672 the first professor in the Faculty of Law. In this capacity he also took part in the organizational tasks and was rector of the alma mater in the summer semesters of 1671, 1675 and 1679 .

The intrigues that were spun around the theological disputes as part of the syncretistic disputes ensured that Seth laid down his evangelical creed. On 2 August 1681 he performed in the monastery church in Spring Born in the presence of the Prince Bishop Michael Stephan Radziejowski the conversion to the Catholic Church. Since he had lost all offices with his transfer to church, he received seven hooves in Klawsdorf for life on August 20, 1681 . Later he had the farm in Klawsdorf administered by an economist and lived in Rössel , where the citizens elected him to be their master . Since it was difficult for him to support his family, he later moved to Bischofstein, where he held the modest office of city notary. The Bishop of Warmia, Johann Stanislaus Sbaski (also: Jan Stanislaw Zbaski; * 1625; † May 21, 1697) repeatedly consulted him on difficult legal issues.
