Christian Siegfried von Bassewitz

Christian Siegfried von Bassewitz (born February 14, 1755 on Gut Gneven ; † August 4, 1831 ) was a Danish officer, most recently in the rank of lieutenant general .

Life

Bassewitz was one of six sons of the royal Danish chamberlain and co-signer of the Mecklenburg LGGEV Christian Siegfried von Bassewitz (1708–1759) and Dorothee Eleonore v. Bülow . He owned the Mecklenburg estate Gneven and was married to Christiane Kienulf, with whom he had two sons and a daughter.

In 1771 he became a Danish cadet and in 1776 a lieutenant in the "Jutland Regiment". Promoted to Rittmeister in 1778 , he temporarily entered service in Russia. In 1790 he is named as an officer of the Fifth Regiment of Light Dragoons . In 1803 he became a lieutenant colonel in the "Sjællandske" cavalry regiment. Appointed Colonel in 1808, he briefly commanded the newly created "Prince Friedrich Ferdinand" regiment. After a brief command of the Schleswig regiment, he returned to the Sjællandske cavalry regiment at the end of 1809, now a major general, and held this post until 1829. Promoted to lieutenant general, he commanded the cavalry brigade of the 2nd Cavalry between 1813 and 1814 Army Division. Since 1824 he wore the Grand Cross of the Dannebrog Order .
