Christian Vielhaber

Christian Vielhaber (born June 1, 1948 ) is an Austrian geographer and geography educator. Vielhaber is an associate university professor i. R. at the University of Vienna .

Career

After studying geography and English at the University of Vienna , Vielhaber passed the teaching examination. He then completed his dissertation as an assistant at the Institute for Geography at the Chair for Human and Population Geography with Ernest Troger . One of his main research areas was Southeast Asia. Vielhaber completed his habilitation as one of the first geography didacticians in Austria in 1988 with a thesis on political education in geography and economics lessons.

Together with Helmut Wohlschlägl , he was involved in the development of specialist didactic training at the Vienna Institute. Together with Wohlschlägl, he edited the yellow subject didactic series “Materials for Didactics in Geography and Economics” at the Institute for Geography at the University of Vienna. The diploma theses in subject didactics supervised at the institute in Vienna also testify to his work. In addition, Vielhaber was instrumental in founding the Regional Didactics Center GW 2009 at the University of Vienna. Since 1987 he has organized so-called didactic cooperation projects between university and school.

In 1995, Wolfgang Sitte brought him to the editorial office of the most important Austrian magazine for specialist didactics, "GW-Lehr", where he set the tone until 2009 (issue 115). In this context, Vielhaber, together with the GW didactic specialist from the University of Innsbruck, Andreas Erhard (who died in an avalanche accident in the Tyrolean mountains in 2006) initiated the Austrian GW specialist didactic conferences in Haimingerberg for many years.

In addition to his work as a university teacher, Vielhaber was involved in the non-violent education association founded by Hans Czermak , of which he is also chairman today.
