Christian Weise (theologian)

Christian Weise (also white , born October 5, 1703 in Leipzig ; † April 25, 1743 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian and educator.

Life

Born as the son of the pastor of the same name at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, he studied theology and obtained his master's degree in 1723. In 1726 he became a catechist at the St. Peter's Church in Leipzig , in 1731 a subdeacon at the Thomaskirche and in 1737 a deacon at the Nikolaikirche . In 1740 he was appointed associate professor at the theological faculty of Leipzig University. His main work is the Christian Concordia Book from 1739. The engraving inserted on the first pages shows a disputation between Martin Luther and other important reformers in a Renaissance loggia.

He was the godfather of Johanna Carolina Bach (1742–1809), Johann Sebastian Bach's second youngest daughter .
