Christian Wilhelm Bernhardt (born March 17, 1815 in Aschersleben , † November 9, 1891 in Wittenberg ) was a German educator and local researcher.

Life

Bernhardt had attended high school in Halberstadt and began studying mathematics and natural sciences at the University of Halle-Wittenberg in 1834. On May 3, 1838, he passed his state examination there and worked for five years as a teacher of mathematics at the royal pedagogy in Halle (Saale) . After he had acquired the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy, he moved to the Lyceum in Wittenberg as a teacher at Easter 1855. Here he received the title of professor on April 30, 1862, and in 1857 became the prorector of the Wittenberg educational institution. On his 50th anniversary in 1888, he received the Red Eagle Order, 4th class, and retired in the same year.

From his pen come some writings that show their relationship to his new Wittenberg homeland as a member of the first Wittenberger Heimatverein. One example is the work on one of the greatest sons of Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Ernst Florens Friedrich Chladni . His work on the Wittenberg Tribulation from 1814 and on the Wittenberg educational establishment should also be mentioned in this context.
