Christian Wolters (born September 2, 1912 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 13, 1998 in Munich ) was a German art historian and restorer .

Christian Wolters was the son of the art historian Alfred Wolters (1884–1973), his younger brother was the art historian Wolfgang Wolters (* 1935). He studied art history, classical archeology and history, but also physics and chemistry. In 1936 he received his doctorate under Wilhelm Pinder at the University of Munich . For his dissertation, he already dealt with physical methods for examining paintings. To deepen this approach, he did an apprenticeship with the restorer Jacob von Danzas at the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum in Berlin and completed his training with Alexander Eibner at the Technical University of Munich, Kurt Wehlte at the Research Institute for Painting Technology in Berlin and with Johannes Wilde at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. After completing his doctorate, he worked for a year at the Art History Institute in Florence , then volunteer at the Kaiser Friedrich Museum in Berlin. After participating in the Second World War and being imprisoned from 1939 to 1947, he initially worked as a freelance restorer in Bremen. From 1951 he worked as a restorer at the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. From 1958 he worked at the Doerner Institute in Munich and was its director from 1964 until his retirement in 1974. An intended appointment as general director of the Berlin museums in 1964 was not successful.

He was married to the painter Ursula Rusche Wolters (1914–2003).
