Christian von Bentheim
Christian von Bentheim (* 1327 ; † 1418 ) was provost of the cathedral in the prince-bishopric of Münster.
Life
Origin and family
Born as the son of Count Johann I von Bentheim († 1333) and Mechthild von der Lippe († 1366), Christian von Bentheim came from the Gerulfinger family , the first count family in (West) Friesland and Holland . He had six siblings, including Otto and Bernhard .
Career and work
At the request of his mother, Christian was received by Pope Clement VI. awarded a canonical in St. Gereon in Cologne . As Cologne canon he was from Pope Innocent VI. on February 20, 1358, succeeded his brother Otto in the office of Provost of the Cathedral in Paderborn. At the same time he received a cathedral canonical in Münster. The bishop of Paderborn, Baldewin, passed on the papal order to the cathedral chapter of Münster on January 3, 1360 . In the following year he received the preamble from the late Canon Dietrich von Enschede and on August 19, 1361 he gave the cathedral provost to his younger brother Bernhard. For this he received the altar in Schüttdorf. A few years later, in 1365, he returned to his post as provost of the cathedral. There is no evidence of the end of his term of office. Since his name does not appear in the domnecologists, it can be assumed that Christian has resigned or has been dismissed from his office.
