Christiane Spiel (* 1951 in Vienna ) is an Austrian educational psychologist.

Life

Christiane Spiel studied mathematics, history and psychology. In 1975 she graduated with a Mag. Phil. (Mathematics and History) at the University of Vienna . In 1976 she became Dr. phil. (History) PhD, 1985 also Dr. rer. nat. (Psychology). In 1995 she completed her habilitation in psychology. Parallel to obtaining these academic degrees, she was a high school teacher from 1975 to 1978. She then worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin and as a visiting professor at the University of Graz . From 2000 she was a professor in the newly established work area “Educational Psychology and Evaluation” at the University of Vienna. From 2003 she was chairman of the board of DeGEval - Society for Evaluation . From 2007 to 2009, Spiel was President of the European Society of Developmental Psychology . From 2004 to 2006 she was the founding dean of the Faculty of Psychology in Vienna. From 2010 to 2014, Spiel was President of the Austrian Society for Psychology .

In addition, Christiane Spiel is a university councilor, publisher of various international journals, a member of the Future Commission for the Austrian School System and a member of other national and international commissions. Since 2007 she has also been a member of the University Council of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

Christiane Spiel is considered to be the founder of educational psychology . Her main research interests are lifelong learning , aggression and violence prevention as well as integration in multicultural schools and gender stereotypes in educational socialization. In addition, the game deals with scientific evaluation .
