biography

Christina Dodd is the youngest of three sisters whose father died before she was born. She already loved reading in her childhood. She attended college in Boise , Idaho , where she met her future husband, Scott. After graduating, she worked as a technical draftsman in an engineering company and designed, among other things, sawmills. During her breaks, she would often read romantic stories and come up with alternative endings. After their daughter Shannon was born in 1980, she decided to stay home and start writing. Over the next ten years, she wrote three stories while on the side working in a bookstore. Through the contact, she got to know the wishes of the readers. However, her first two manuscripts were rejected. It wasn't until Candle in the Window was published after the story won the Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart Award , an award for unpublished works. The publisher HarperCollins accepted the manuscript and published it in 1991. This book won other awards and is still in print today.

Due to her editor's conservative attitude towards love scenes, many of her early books have been abridged. It wasn't until she moved to Avon that her books were published unchanged. Avon's first book was A Well Pleasured Lady , which also meant a shift to historical stories.

Their heroines are often based on their mother's character. The books have since been translated into several languages and were on the bestseller lists of the New York Times , USA Today and Publishers Weekly . Her 2003 story, My Favorite Bride , was in the top 15 of the New York Times bestseller list for 15 weeks. The Romance Writers of America gave her the RITA Award , the highest award for romantic writers in America.

In the meantime she lived with her family in California and Idaho .
