Christine El Mahdy

Christine El Mahdy (born May 31, 1950 as Christine Hobson, † February 7, 2008 ) was an English Egyptologist .

According to her own statements, Christine El Mahdy started her career at the age of seven and began reading hieroglyphics at the age of nine . After graduating from high school, she studied Egyptology and the Coptic language in Manchester and Liverpool and completed her studies with a Bachelor of Arts and Dipl. -Egyptologist. She has taught Egyptology both in England and abroad, has led numerous tours in Egypt , has worked on excavations and worked in the Egyptian departments of the Bolton Museum in Lancashire and the Liverpool Museum .

She was chairman of the private "Egyptian Society", which she founded in 1988/1989 (there are different statements about this). The organization is based in Taunton , Somerset , and aims to bring Egyptology closer to all students worldwide. The offer of the "Egyptian Society" is aimed at students of Egyptology who want to discuss their theories under the guidance of tutors and evaluate alternative points of view or simply want to learn more about ancient Egypt .

Christine El Mahdy is the author of several popular science books published worldwide. Are in German appeared Tutankhamun - life and death of the young Pharaoh (2000) and The Secret of the Great Pyramid (2005). In her book about Tutankhamun she not only describes the discovery of the tomb KV62 , but also gives general information on Egyptology and the historical background that led to the young king's accession to the throne. Her final interpretations of the life and death of this Pharaoh are based on works by Cyril Aldred and Nicholas Reeves .
