Cyril Aldred

Cyril Aldred (born February 19, 1914 in Fulham , County of London , † June 23, 1991 in Edinburgh ) was a British Egyptologist , art historian and writer.

Life

Cyril Aldred was born on February 19, 1914 as the third son of Frederick Aldred and Lilian Ethel Aldred, b. Underwood was born in Fulham, now part of London . His father was a civil servant at the post office. After attending the Sloane School in Chelsea , Aldred studied English at King's College London and then art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art at the University of London . During his student days he met the Egyptologist Howard Carter know in 1933 . After completing his studies in 1936, Cyril Aldred became Deputy Director of the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh in 1937 , a position he held throughout his life.

Cyril Aldred wrote several books and worked in the Department of Art and Archeology at the Royal Museum in Edinburgh and at times in the Department of Egyptian Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
