Christine Haager

Christine Haager (born July 2, 1938 in Mödling ; † January 12, 2018 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Between 1990 and 1994 and 1999, Haager was a member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

Haager attended elementary school from 1944 to 1948 and then secondary school until 1952. She subsequently learned the trade of retail saleswoman by 1955 and worked as a saleswoman between 1955 and 1958. After that, Haager worked as an optical tester from 1962 to 1973 and also attended the social academy of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees between 1969 and 1970 . From 1973 to 1978 she took over the pedagogical management of the ergonomic school center of the ÖGB and was then employed from 1978 to 1998 as secretary of the chamber for workers and employees.

politics

From 1980 to 1990 and again from 1995, Haager was a councilor in Mödling and between 1993 and 1999 she was the regional party chairwoman of the SPÖ Lower Austria. In addition, she was regional women chairwoman of the ÖGB Niederösterreich from 1978 to 1998 and from 1980 to 1997 chamber councilor of the chamber for workers and employees for Lower Austria. Haager represented the SPÖ from December 18, 1990 to November 6, 1999 in the National Council and was briefly a member again between September 6, 1999 and October 28, 1999.

Haager, who was considered the “social conscience of Mödling”, founded the women's shelter and the children's home “Kunterbunt” in Mödling. In addition, she headed the Mödlinger Volkshilfe and was in charge of setting up the Mödlinger Bürgerbüro, an information center for social issues of Volkshilfe and the Austrian Aid Organization . For her commitment, Haager was also voted Lower Austrian of the month January 2005 by the readers of the daily newspaper Kurier .

She was deputy chairwoman of the Lower Austrian Pensioners' Association. In 2011 she also became chairwoman of the Austrian Seniors' Council.
