Christine Perthen

Christine Perthen (* July 21, 1948 in Pirna ; † December 30, 2004 in Berlin ) was a German graphic artist , draftsman and long-time professor at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1966 and subsequent professional training as an industrial seamstress, Christine Perthen studied fashion design from 1967 to 1972 at the University of Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin-Weißensee . After several years of working as a product designer , including shoe designer at VEB Goldpunkt Berlin, she was a master student of Werner Klemke from 1976–1979 at the Academy of the Arts of the GDR and from 1977 held a teaching position at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art. She taught nature studies, life drawing and fashion graphics in the fashion design department. Since then she has also been active as a writer and published her first volume of short stories, Papierliebe .

After working as a freelance graphic artist and draftsman, she was appointed full professor at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee in 1993 .

After suffering from cancer for a short time , Christine Perthen died on December 30th, 2004. One day before her death, she bequeathed her artistic work to the Berlinische Galerie . The Christine Perthen Foundation was founded in 2006 and awards the "Christine Perthen Prize" for etching every five years.
