Christian Democratic Union (Ukraine)

The Christian Democratic Union ( ukr. Християнсько-демократичний союз , Christijansko-Demokratichniy soyuz) is a conservative party in Ukraine . The party leader is Volodymyr Stretovych .

It was founded on February 8, 1997 in Kiev to promote the ideas of European Christian democracy in Ukraine. In March 2002 the party in alliance with Our Ukraine , led by the future President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko , won the parliamentary elections. In 2006, too, the CDU was part of the Our Ukraine Alliance and one of the supporters of the Orange Revolution .

The party's newspaper is called Християнський демократ (Christian Democrat).

The party supports efforts to join Ukraine in the EU and NATO . She is a member of the European Christian Political Movement .
