The Partido Popular Monárquico ? / i , also abbreviated PPM , to German Monarchist People's Party , is a Portuguese political party . The party was founded on 23. May 1974 after the Carnation Revolution of monarchist set predecessor organizations and advocates the restoration of Braganza - monarchy in Portugal. From 1979 to 1983 the PPM, together with the Portuguese Partido Social Democrata (PSD) and the CDS, was part of an electoral alliance of conservative parties called the Democratic Alliance (AD) and from 1981 to 1983 with Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles in government. Since the dissolution of this alliance, the party was no longer represented in parliament because it could not get enough votes on its own. It did not achieve more than 0.7 percent of the vote in any of the national elections.

In the parliamentary elections of 2005 , the PPM did not run as an independent party, but was able to place two MPs on the list of Social Democrats , so that the party was represented with two seats in the Portuguese National Assembly.

In the regional elections in the Azores in 2008, to the surprise of many observers, the People's Monarchist Party won a seat in the assembly, which it was able to hold in 2012 and 2016, and has been represented on the Lisbon City Council by two members since October 2017.

Both in the most recent European elections and in the parliamentary elections, the party entered with its own lists, but could not overcome the status of a splinter party.

The current head of the House of Braganza and Portuguese pretender Duarte III. Pio de Bragança does not agree with the party's program in some areas, so there is no connection between the party and him.

In spring 2019, the PPM participated in the establishment of a nationalist and conservative party coalition of the political right in Portugal. Under the name "Basta!" (It's enough!) The PPM, the newly founded Chega party (also: "Es Reicht" or "Enough") and the "Citizenship and Christian Democracy" party, founded in 2009 as Portugal pro Vida (Portugal for life) ( Partido Cidadania e Democracia Cristã) together in the European elections in Portugal 2019 . However, the alliance could not achieve a mandate.

The President of the PPM is Nuno Maria de Figueiredo Cabral da Camara Pereira, its General Secretary Armando Carlos Ferreira.
