Christo Gruew Danow ( Bulgarian Христо Груев Данов ; born August 24, 1828 in Klissura , † December 11, 1911 in Plovdiv ) was a Bulgarian publisher and bookseller .

Life

Danov was a teacher by profession, but became known as a pioneer of Bulgarian publishing. His work as a publisher began in 1855 with the publication of a calendar for the year 1856. In 1857 he then founded a publishing bookstore with several branches, including in Sofia , Lom and Rustschuk . From 1866 he lived in Plovdiv. In 1900 he was elected an honorary member of the Bulgarian Literary Society, from which the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences later emerged.

His house at Mitropolit-Paisii-Straße 2 in Plovdiv is now part of the Plovdiv Historical Museum . Among other things, his office and library are shown in the house.
