Christoffel Bisschop (born April 22, 1828 in Leeuwarden , † October 5, 1904 in Scheveningen ) was a Dutch painter, draftsman and lithographer.

Bisschop was born as the son of the merchants Richard Bisschop and Sara Soeting.

In Leeuwarden he became a student of the painter and draftsman Hendrik Schaaff , in Amsterdam of the painter Jacobus Schoemaker Doyer and in Delft of the painter and lithographer Willem Hendrik Schmidt . From 1848 to 1852 he studied at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague with the painter, draftsman and lithographer Hubertus van Hove . Then he continued his studies in Paris with Charles Gleyre . In 1855 he settled in The Hague.

Bisschop was a versatile artist, he painted genre and mythology scenes, portraits, interiors and still lifes. In 1861 his work was awarded a medal of honor. His work has been exhibited regularly in and outside the Netherlands. In 1863 he was made a Knight of the Order of the Oak Crown .

On January 26, 1869, he married his pupil, the Kensington-born London painter Kate Swift (1834–1928). He lived and worked with his wife in the villa "Frisia" in Scheveningen. He was a member of the artists' associationPulchri Studio ” and the Hollandsche Teekenmaatschappij in The Hague.

Van Bisschop's work is in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum, the Groninger Museum, the Friesmuseum in Leeuwarden, the Dordrechtsmuseum, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, the Mesdag Collection in The Hague, the Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen and the Teylers Museum in Haarlem.
