Hubertus van Hove (also Huib van Hove, born May 13, 1814 in The Hague , † November 14, 1865 in Antwerp ) was a Dutch genre painter, etcher and watercolorist.

Hubertus van Hove was born the son of the painter Bartholomaeus van Hove and brother of Johannes Huybertus van Hove . He was born in his father's studio a. a. trained together with his brother and Johannes Bosboom . He helped his father paint sets for the Royal Theater in The Hague. Later he also became a student of Hendrik van de Sande Bakhuyzen .

Van Hove started out as a landscape painter, later switched to genre painting. The influence of Pieter de Hooch can be seen. Following the example of his father, he worked in a romantic style, but with a clearly realistic inclination. He preferred light colors. He also made etchings and watercolors.

As a teacher at the Hague Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten , Van Hove taught several painters from the Hague School , including Jacob Maris , Christoffel Bisschop , Hendricus Johannes Scheeres , Johannes Anthonie Balthasar Stroebel and Maurits Leon .

He later moved to Antwerp for tax reasons, where he also taught at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten .

His works can be found in the collections of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (including many graphic works), the Teylers Museum , the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen , the Kröller-Müller Museum and outside the Netherlands in the British Museum .
