Christoffel Hendrik Wiese , mostly just Christo Wiese (born September 10, 1941 in Upington , South Africa ), is a South African entrepreneur .

Life

Wiese's father was a farmer and gas station owner in Upington . There he also attended the Primary School and then the Paarl Boys High School in Paarl . He earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law from Stellenbosch University and later received an honorary doctorate from the same university. He heads the South African retail company Shoprite . He also controls the South African company Pepkor . He owns the Lourensford Estate near Somerset West and a safari excursion area in the Kalahari , the Orxy Hunting Farm, where trophy hunting is also possible. According to US Forbes Magazine , Wiese had a net worth of $ 3.1 billion in March 2012, making him the third richest South African.

In addition, Wiese was the largest single shareholder with 23% of the Dutch-South African furniture company Steinhoff International Holdings , which he led on an interim basis after the resignation of CEO Markus Jooste in the course of an accounting scandal on December 5, 2017. A few days after taking office, Wiese also resigned from his office on December 14, 2017 with immediate effect.

Wiese was named the most important entrepreneur in South Africa in 2015.

Wiese is married and has three children.
