Christoph Bundscherer

Christoph Bundscherer (born July 9, 1958 in Landshut ) is a German diplomat . He has been Ambassador to Nicaragua since 2019 .

Career

Christoph Bundscherer studied after graduation Law and completed his studies with the second state examination.

In 1989, Bundscherer joined the foreign service and completed the preparatory service for the higher foreign service by 1990 . He then worked as a consultant in the Political and Disarmament Department of the Foreign Office . From 1992 to 1994 his first assignment abroad took him to the Caracas Embassy as a consultant for the press and legal and consular affairs . This was followed by an assignment as a consultant in the disarmament department at the Foreign Office until 1997. During this time he was with his thesis on Germany and the Chemical Weapons Convention at the University of Greifswald to Dr. jur. PhD.

From 1997 to 2000 Bundscherer worked as a consultant for economics, law and consular affairs at the Nairobi embassy , then until 2004 he was a consultant for politics, law and consular affairs at the Brasilia embassy . Another assignment followed in the Foreign Office, as deputy head of the Humanitarian Aid Task Force, before moving to the Lima embassy as deputy head in 2008 . From there, Bundscherer moved back to the Foreign Office in 2011, where he became head of the Andean countries department . In 2014 he returned to the embassy in Brasilia, initially as head of the department for economics and global issues and from 2016 as permanent representative of the ambassador.

In mid-2019, Bundscherer was appointed ambassador to Managua , Nicaragua , succeeding Ute König .

Bundscherer is married and has a daughter.
