action

The film is set in South Korea in the near future. Jun-seok has spent the past three years in prison. When he is released, it takes a while for him to understand how much South Korea has changed after the recent financial crisis. The drug trade and arms trade are flourishing. The won is no longer worth anything, and so is the booty of Jun-seok's gang's last raid. Nevertheless, Jun-seok decides to run off to Taiwan with his friends . A final coup is necessary: a raid on a casino .

publication

Time to Hunt celebrated its world premiere on February 22, 2020 at the 70th Berlinale . The film was originally due to open in South Korean cinemas shortly afterwards. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the theatrical release was initially postponed indefinitely. Finally, the distributor Little Big Pictures decided to publish the film directly on Netflix and to refrain from a theatrical release altogether. However, there was a license dispute between the producer Little Big Pictures and the international distributor Contents Panda, which meant that the release was postponed indefinitely. On April 17, 2020, an agreement between Contents Panda and Little Big Pictures was announced that would allow it to be published on Netflix from April 23, 2020.

reception

Time to Hunt received mostly positive reviews. Deborah Young of the Hollywood Reporter attributes the film to the testosterone-driven action group, whose relentless tension is in itself a reward for fans of the genre. Furthermore, Time to Hunt is a socially conscious coming-of-age story, whose careful character development gives the whole thing a deep sense of realism. After Peter Debruge, director Yoon succeeded in building an atmospheric world. The killer Han reminds him of Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men . Jonathan Romney of Screendaily rates the film more critically. The atmosphere is too oppressive and monotonous. In addition, he does not make enough of his possibilities. So the casino robbery is not as exciting as it could have been. Jannick Nolting from Filmstarts rated Time to Hunt 3 out of 5 stars. The film has potential, but the dialogues are too clichéd. Nolting names the “brute” sound design as the attraction of the film, something that has rarely been seen in the cinema in this quality up to now. "When there is shooting in 'Time To Hunt', it thunders through the hall with a deafening thunder." This instills real respect for the rifle. The film could put the Hollywood action films of the past few years in its pocket, but it wastes too much time on the trivial. The German filmmaker Hasko Baumann thinks that Time to Hunt is a film that is primarily about the hunt itself, as in Bullet in the Head and Hitcher, the Highway Killer . The film was made fantastically and the shootings shone with a brutal tone. Also Katja Nicodemus responds to the tone of the film. This was brutal and felt like shooting 10 million bullets into the ear canals. She draws the conclusion: "Only Korean cinema can celebrate friendship and loyalty so stylishly in the post-crisis hell."
