Christoph Daniel Schenck , also Christophorus Schenck , Christoph Daniel Schenk , (* before August 26, 1633 in Konstanz ; † 1691 there ) was a German sculptor of the 17th century and became known for his baroque sacred art.

Life

Christoph Daniel Schenck came from a family of sculptors who mainly worked in the area of Lake Constance , Upper Swabia and Northern Switzerland . Trained by his father, he became known for his religious representations, mainly small sculptures made of boxwood and ivory . He was also known to Schenck for his extensive woodwork for altars , especially altar figures. Schenck was mainly active during the Counter Reformation , in which many churches and monasteries were redesigned. His work deals with topics such as human suffering and remorse .

Christoph-Daniel-Schenk-Strasse was named after him in Konstanz .
