Wilhelm Boeck

Wilhelm Boeck (born May 21, 1908 in Gießen ; † July 6, 1998 in Tübingen ) was a German art historian .

Life

From 1926 to 1931 Boeck studied art history and classical archeology in Giessen, Munich , Vienna and Berlin ; there as a pupil of Edmund Hildebrandt .

Act

Particular importance is attached to his examination of the art of Paul Cézanne , Pablo Picasso and the work of HAP Grieshaber . His main areas of expertise were Gothic sculpture , Italian early Renaissance , German baroque and the art of the 20th century . In 1959 he published the first monograph by the artist Grieshaber. Boeck taught since 1941 as a lecturer and from 1948 as an adjunct professor at the University of Tübingen . During his teaching activities, he was marginalized by the National Socialist art historian Hubert Schrade .

Honors

In 1929 Boeck received the Grimm Foundation Prize at the University of Berlin . In 1959 he was awarded the Bodensee Literature Prize. In 1989 he received the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg .
