Christoph Eric Hack (born October 14, 1985 in Linz ) is an Austrian writer and historian .

Life

After the death of his parents (his father was the successful Austrian wrestler Ernst Hack ) in 1986, Christoph Eric Hack (also Chris Eric Hack or Chris Hack) grew up with his grandparents in Leonding . He has close relatives in Canada and the United States , where he spends a lot of time and draws inspiration for his art. Christoph Eric Hack is married to his childhood friend and lives in Linz.

In an interview on the occasion of a reading in the Stifterhaus in Linz in 2015, Chris Hack described how he wrote his first poems and short stories at the age of 12. Hack caused a sensation for the first time in 2004 - as a 19-year-old - at the Floriana (literature prize) , when he gave a speech on the subject of / about / and water, fire lust instead of the text favored by the jury, in which he held every form of literary competition refused. Texts are not racehorses, a writer is not a jockey and certainly not a gladiator . Art is not comparable and cannot be judged, and anyone who tries to do so would understand nothing about art. In an interview in 2016, he even said that literary competitions would turn writers into “ greedy sow farmers ” who “ rummage through their texts before the biennials to find the most magnificent racing pig in the stable ”. Hack has so far refused any further participation in literary competitions. In 2006 he met the publisher Dietmar Ehrenreich, who immediately signed him and remained his sponsor until his death in 2016. In 2008, Hack's first novel, Tales from the Kürnbergwald, was published in an abridged version by Ehrenreich's Resistenz Verlag . In 2013 he was able to build on the success of his first novel with The Secret of the Wolf Tiger Dogs ; In 2017 he published his last, critically acclaimed novel, Blue River Blues .

Christoph Eric Hack studied history at the University of Graz . In 2010 he submitted his diploma thesis on the subject of National Socialist continuities in Linz / Danube 1945-50 ; In 2013, the dissertation Alpine Skiing and the Invention of the Austrian Nation 1945–1964 was published , with which he obtained the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy . In the field of historic sport studies, Hack is one of the most cited scientists in Europe. He is always available as an expert for magazines, radio and television programs.
