Christoph Hinkelmann

Christoph Hinkelmann (born February 14, 1957 in Nordleda ) is a German biologist, especially ornithologist and nature conservationist .

Live and act

Since childhood, Hinkelmann had an interest in the entire world of birds. This ranged from bird watching and keeping them to bird protection. He organized his hobby according to his time and professional possibilities. Hinkelmann studied biology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen between 1978 and 1984 . Between 1985 and 1989 he did his doctorate at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . His dissertation from 1988 at the Zoological Research Museum Alexander Koenig dealt with the taxonomy, geographic variation and biogeography of the genus Phaethornis (Aves, Trochilidae) . In 1989 he was the first to describe the brown-bellied shadow hummingbird subspecies Phaethornis bourcieri major .

For the specialist magazine Trochilus - Tropical Birds: Journal of Tropical Birds published by Karl-Ludwig Schuchmann between 1991 and 1992 , he worked as an editorial assistant.
