Christoph Josten (doctor)

Christoph Josten (born August 19, 1954 ) is a German surgeon and trauma surgeon. He is also a university professor and medical director of the Leipzig University Hospital.

Life

Josten studied medicine from 1973 to 1979 at the Saarland University Hospital . At the same time, he began studying psychology in 1976. In 1981 he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. After his internship at various clinics, he moved to the surgical clinic of the Bergmannsheil University Hospital in Bochum in 1983 . There he was recognized as a specialist in surgery in 1986 and in 1987 he was qualified as a trauma surgery specialist. From 1987 he was senior physician, later chief physician at Bergmannsheil. In 1989 he spent some time at clinics in the United States on a scholarship from the German Society for Surgery . After his habilitation in 1990, he was appointed to the Chair of Trauma Surgery at the University of Leipzig in 1997 , where he was Director of the Clinic for Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery and, since 2014, Managing Director of the Clinic for Orthopedics, Trauma Surgery and Plastic Surgery . Josten has been the Medical Director of the Leipzig University Hospital since October 1, 2019.
