Christoph Knaut

Christoph Knaut , also Christophorus Knauth (* 1638 in Halle , † 1694 in Halle) was a German doctor and botanist . He was the brother of Christian Knaut .

Live and act

Christoph Knaut developed his own system based on the method of John Ray when he published his Flora von Halle in 1687 . He described 17 different classes of plants. With it he designed one of the taxonomic systems with which Carl von Linné dealt critically.

Honor taxon

Carl von Linné named the genus Knautia of the cardiac family (Dipsacaceae) in his honor and his brother .
