Christoph Pötzsch (* 1955 in Dresden ) is a German lawyer and non-fiction author. He published several books on Dresden's cultural history.

Life

Pötzsch was born in 1955 in Dresden as the son of Christian Pötzsch (1926–2001), singer at the Dresden Semperoper and artistic director at the state theaters . After finishing school, Pötzsch did military service in the National People's Army from 1974 to 1976 and then began studying law with a specialization in commercial law in Halle / Saale , which he completed in 1980. Until 1983 he worked at VEB Tapetenfabrik Coswig. At the age of 28, Pötzsch, who was married to a Sorbin for the first time, converted to the Catholic faith in 1983. He then worked as a legal advisor in the workers' housing association "Aufbau" in Dresden. After the fall of the Wall, Pötzsch joined a law firm in 1990 and thus came into contact with the Dresden-Meißen diocese . Since 1991 he has been in the service of the Dresden-Meißen diocese, where he worked as legal advisor, chancellor and head of the personnel office and until 2017 as head of the Catholic office.

In June 2017 he was awarded the papal Order of Gregory .

Pötzsch is known as a "renowned hobby historian" and since 2001 has published several books on the history of Dresden. This also includes books with anecdotal biographies on personalities who were buried in Dresden cemeteries (book series "Fates on ..."). He also gives regular lectures and offers city tours in Dresden.

Pötzsch is married for the second time. He has two sons with his first wife, who died in 2001.
