Christoph Schwind

Christoph Schwind (born August 22, 1949 in Thum ) is a German local politician. He was Mayor of Jena from 2000 to 2006 and Mayor of Weimar from November 2006 to November 2012 . He is married and has three children.

Christoph Schwind studied biomedical engineering at the Technical University of Dresden until 1974 . After completing his studies, he worked in the Zwönitz measuring device factory as an employee for special components. Later he switched to the measuring device factory in Magdeburg . Schwind worked there as a group or department manager for manufacturing technology. In September 1981, Schwind moved to the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . Here he was employed as a department head for electronics within the Institute for Physiology.

Schwind became a member of the GDR CDU as early as 1969 . He was already a member of the Jena city council during the GDR era.

Since the fall of the Wall, Schwind has held various public positions. He was chairman of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Jena and Jenaer Nahverkehr (Jenah). He later became head of the department for economics and transport in Jena. From 2000 to 2006, Schwind was mayor of the city of Jena and was responsible for the areas of urban development, architecture and monument protection, environmental and nature protection, transport and economy. He ran in May 2006 as a candidate for the mayoral election in Jena, but was defeated in the runoff election by the SPD candidate Albrecht Schröter .

From November 20, 2006 to November 19, 2012, Schwind was the department head for finances, order and building in Weimar and thus at the same time mayor and deputy mayor of the city of Weimar, Stefan Wolf .
