Christoph Stender

Christoph Stender (* 1957 in Düsseldorf ) is a Catholic pastor and writer. He was the chairman of several organizations and head of the Catholic University Community of Aachen for 16 years . Since January 2017 Stender has been the clergyman rector of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK).

In 1982 Stender obtained a degree in religious education from the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia in Paderborn. In 1984 he obtained a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen and two years later the diploma in theology from the same university. In 1987 he was ordained a priest in Aachen Cathedral by the then Bishop Klaus Hemmerle . In the period from 1987 to 1992, he took over as chaplain the task of the pastor in St. Philip and James and St. Catherine in Schleiden-Wolseiffen-Herhahn (Eifel). From 1988 he was also responsible for youth pastoral care in the Eifel region, and religion teacher at the Clara-Fey-Gymnasium in Schleiden.

In the period from autumn 1992 to early 2009, he served as university chaplain the Catholic University Parish Aachen . From 1993 to 1999 he was also a board member of the Unification of Catholic Students at Universities of Applied Sciences (EKSF) . Since 1994 Stender has been leading the course for the training of pastoral and parish assistants in the Aachen diocese for four years . From 1995 to 1997 he was given a teaching position in Catholic theology at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1997 to 2001 he was chairman of the Conference for Catholic University Pastoral Care (KHP) in German-speaking countries and from 2000 to 2005 of the Forum for University and Church . In 2003 he became a lecturer at the Institute for Educational Sciences at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 2008 he was elected to the spiritual advisory board of the international Pax Christi movement of the German section in the diocese of Aachen. On April 1st, 2009 he passed on the leadership of the Catholic University Community of Aachen . Since then, he has headed the mentorship at RWTH Aachen University, an episcopal institution that accompanies students of Catholic theology on their way to becoming religious teachers. He has also been a member of the national board of mentors since 2009.

Since January 2017 Stender has been the clergyman rector of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK). He is released from the diocese of Aachen for five years for this activity.
