Christoph Waffenschmidt

Christoph Waffenschmidt (* 1969 in Waldbröl ) is a German graduate in administration (FH), former local politician (CDU) and head of World Vision Germany . Waffenschmidt was born in 1969 as the son of Parliamentary State Secretary Horst Waffenschmidt in Waldbröl in Oberberg . He is Protestant , married and has one daughter.

Life

Waffenschmidt was already involved in the Junge Union as a young man . At the age of 22 he became a member of Waldbröl's city ​​council . In 1999, at the age of 29, he was elected mayor of Waldbröl for the CDU , making him the youngest mayor in the most populous federal state, North Rhine-Westphalia .

After he was re-elected in 2004, he gave up his position as mayor in 2008 and succeeded Günther Bitzer as Managing Director of World Vision Germany (WVD). As chairman of the board of WVD, he is committed to fighting hunger and poverty. He is the editor of the World Vision Children's Study and jointly responsible for awarding the German Children's Prize . Waffenschmidt is particularly committed to newborn children and warns that it must be in the interests of all of us to bring up children who would later become a pillar of the state.

In addition, he is a member of the supervisory board of the Christian special interest broadcaster ERF-Medien from Wetzlar .

Memberships

During his time as mayor, Waffenschmidt was a member of the Politics Working Group of the German Evangelical Alliance , an evangelical network. He is a member of the board of the German Donation Council and a member of the foundation board of the Hope Bearers Foundation .
