Volley Modena was an Italian women's volleyball club in Modena , founded in 1959 and dissolved in 2005. The club took part in the top Italian league, Serie A1 , and the Volleyball Champions League .

history

In 1959 the club Circolo Cabassi was founded and replaced in 1960 Audax Modena in the top division of Italy, Serie A. In the season 1964/65 the club reached the runner-up and was renamed Coma Mobili Modena after this success . In 1969 he rose to the second division, Serie B, but returned to the elite league for a year.

In 1973, another team from Modena, Fini Modena , disbanded and the club founded as Circolo Cabassi called itself from then on due to lack of competition in the city of Volley Modena . In the mid-1980s, the club was supported by the sponsor Civ & Civ , while its biggest rival was Olimpia Teodora Ravenna . Ravenna was Italian champion eleven times in a row between 1980 and 1991.

In the 1990s, Volley Modena regularly lost the finals against the teams Foppapedretti Bergamo and Matera and was therefore nicknamed the eternal runner-up . Due to various sponsors, the club had constantly changing names, including Omnitel Modena . In the 1999/2000 season under the leadership of the Chinese Lang Ping managed to win the Italian championship when the team defeated Medinex Reggio Calabria in the final.

Because of the championship title, Phone Limited Modena qualified for the Volleyball Champions League , which they won in 2001. In 2002 he won the CEV Cup and the Italian Cup competition before a sporting and financial decline set in.

At the end of the 2004/05 season, the club was relegated to the second division. However, since the club did not apply for a license for the A2 series, this was dissolved. This was the first time since 1952 that no club from Modena played in the first volleyball league.

The equipment was sold to the owner of Sassuolo Volleyball .
