Christoph Wieprecht (born October 15, 1875 in Essen , † September 24, 1942 there ) was a German writer .

Life

Christoph Wieprecht came from a working class family who immigrated from Eichsfeld to the Ruhr area . After attending elementary school , he worked from 1890 to 1927 as a worker in the Friedrich-Krupp-AG in Essen . He rose through various stations from errand boy to cutter / lathe operator and finally to factory supervisor. As a devout Catholic, Wieprecht belonged to the Christian Metalworkers' Association and was close to the “ People's Association for Catholic Germany ”. Around 1910 he began to write poems , which appeared from 1916 in publications of the publishing house of Christian Union Youth. From 1918 onwards he was in contact with Wilhelm Vershofen and his group of " Werkfolk on House Nyland "; from 1924 he was a member of the " Ruhrlandkreis " founded by Otto Wohlgemuth . In 1927 he was given early retirement because of a nervous problem.

Christoph Wieprecht's work consists mainly of poems in which he processed his personal experiences in the metal industry; his poetry makes use of expressionist stylistic devices and often aims to heroise and mythologize the work, which the author understands as a "worship service". Although Wieprecht published only a little after 1933, he was one of the authors promoted by the National Socialist cultural policy; Wieprecht rewarded the late recognition with positive statements about the Third Reich .
