Christoph Zusatz (* 1964 in Hanover ) is a German art historian .

Life

He studied art history, history and archeology in Heidelberg and Vienna . During his studies he did museum internships in Berlin , Vienna, San Francisco and Los Angeles . After completing his doctorate in 1991 with a thesis on “'Degenerate Art' - Exhibition Strategies in Nazi Germany”, he worked from 1991 to 1998 as a research assistant or research assistant at the Art History Institute of Heidelberg University . After his habilitation in 2002 at the Philosophical-Historical Faculty of the University of Heidelberg (subject of the habilitation thesis: "Meta-Art - Art about Art since 1960") he became a private lecturer there . From 2003 to 2006 he was a research assistant at the research center “Degenerate Art” at the Art History Institute of the Free University of Berlin , combined with a teaching position. In 2005 he was awarded the title of Associate Professor by the University of Heidelberg. In 2007 he received offers for W3 professorships at the University of Hildesheim (rejected) and at the University of Koblenz-Landau (accepted). There he taught as a professor of art history and art education until 2018. In 2009 he was Visiting Professor at the Auckland University of Technology , School of Art & Design. In 2010 he was a Guest Professor at Stephen F. Austin State University . In 2014 he was visiting professor at the Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa . In 2016 he was a Guest Professor at the College of Fine Arts at Fujian Normal University. Since 2018 he has been teaching as Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach professorship for modern and contemporary art history (19th to 21st centuries) with a focus on provenance research / history of collecting at the University of Bonn .
