Christophe Decarnin (* 1964 in Le Touquet-Paris-Plage ) is a French fashion designer and former art director of the Parisian fashion house Balmain .

biography

Decarnin was born in Le Touquet-Paris-Plage in northern France in 1964 and moved to Paris in 1981 at the age of 17, where he attended the École supérieure des arts et techniques de la mode (ESMOD). After graduating, he was hired by Paco Rabanne , where he worked in the creative department for seven years. In 2000 he switched to Georges Rech as a consultant . At the end of 2005 he was recruited by the Parisian fashion house Balmain , which at the time was in financial difficulties. There he was promoted to art director in 2006 and managed to quintuple group sales within a very short period of time and thus bring the fashion house back on the road to success and to its old size as in the times of Óscar de la Renta or Karl Lagerfeld . The fashion house was now considered bold, ultra-sexy and ultra-expensive . In 2011 he resigned due to depression after being in inpatient treatment in a hospital since December 2010. On April 6, 2011, Olivier Rousteing succeeded him as Art Director at Balmain.
