Despite his poor performance in the Tour de France, the 1992 season was Manin's best professional year, the climax of which was fifth place in the Paris – Nice stage race . In the less important races Apulien-Rundfahrt (Giro di Puglia) and Trofeo Pantalica he was on the podium with a third place. These listings gave him 146th place, the best listing of his career in the UCI world rankings . In 1993 Manin switched to the US cycling team Motorola , where he met the young Lance Armstrong and the German Jan Schur , among others . After an unsuccessful year, Manin signed with the French team Chazal for the 1994 season . There he was active for two years without achieving any notable success.
