Life

Christopher Langdon Brain was the eldest son of Russell Brain, 1st Baron Brain , whose title as Baron Brain had been created in 1962 and thus established a hereditary barony with seat in the House of Lords , and the Stella Langton Down. He was born on August 30, 1926. He did not enjoy his education in one of the elite schools usual for children of the upper class, but in one of the less prominent private schools, namely the Leighton Park School in Reading . He then attended the New College of the University of Oxford . He completed his studies with a Masters of Arts degree in 1956. Before that, he had served his military service from 1946 to 1948 in the Royal Navy . Professionally, he worked in British trade associations, first as Liveryman since 1955, then from 1974 as Upper Warden, later as Upper Bailiff and finally as Regional Council of the British Chamber of Commerce in France.

In 1966, when his father died, he inherited his title and seat in the House of Lords. The seat he retained as a member of the Conservatives by the year 1999. This year, he lost - like many of his peers - his membership because he was not on the 92 hereditary peers was one that due to the law on the reform of the House of Lords for Remaining in the House of Lords had been chosen.

The 2nd Baron Brain was married to Mary Morris since 1953. Since this marriage resulted in only three daughters, his brother Michael Cottrell Brain, born in 1928, inherited his title as Baron Brain on his death on August 15, 2014.
