Christopher F. Droney

Christopher Fitzgerald Droney (* 1954 in Hartford , Connecticut ) is an American lawyer and politician .

Life

Droney studied at the College of the Holy Cross , where he received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1976 . In 1979 he received a Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut Law School . He then practiced as a lawyer in Hartford from 1979 to 1993 . At the same time he was also politically active. So he was from 1983 to 1985 Vice Mayor and from 1985 to 1989 Mayor of West Hartford . From 1993 to 1997 he was the United States Attorney for the Connecticut District.

On June 5, 1997, President Bill Clinton nominated him as a judge on the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut to fill the vacant seat of Judge Alan Harris Nevas . He was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 11, 1997, and he was sworn in on September 18. Droney held this judge's post until December 1, 2011, when he moved to another judge's post. His vacant seat has been filled with Michael P. Shea . Droney himself was nominated on May 4, 2011 by President Barack Obama as a judge in the second district of the United States Court of Appeals , in order to fill the vacant seat of Guido Calabresi . He was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 28, 2011, and he was sworn in on December 1.
