Christopher Frayling

Sir Christopher Frayling (born December 25, 1946 in Hampton , London ) is a British historian and author of numerous studies on popular culture.

Life

Frayling headed the British Film Institute in the 1980s ; in the middle of the following decade he began working at colleges and universities. He taught history at the University of Bath , where he also received an honorary doctorate in 2003. From 2005 to 2009 he was Chairman of the Arts Council England , a task that he had previously carried out for the Design Council , the Royal Mint Advisory Committee ”and the Victoria and Albert Museum .

In 2001 Frayling was knighted as a Knight Bachelor for his services to art and design education. In 2015 he was elected to the Academia Europaea .

Numerous publications are the result of his work, which also includes radio and television interviews with numerous personalities from the film industry. He paid particular attention to spaghetti westerns and to Sergio Leone's oeuvre .
