Christopher J. Arthur

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christopher J. Arthur (actually Christopher John Arthur , before 1990 also as Chris Arthur , Christopher Arthur or CJ Arthur ; * February 7, 1940 ) is a philosopher and author on Marxist dialectics .

Life

Christopher J. Arthur studied at the Universities of Nottingham and Oxford . He taught philosophy at the University of Sussex for 25 years . He is a member of the international research group International Symposium on Marxian Theory , which has organized annual symposia since 1991 and has already published 10 anthologies.

Arthur is a recognized expert on the work of Karl Marx . He represents the so-called " homology thesis", according to which the dialectical methods of Marx and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel are similar in form, but are on different ontological levels. The real movement of exchange, as represented by Marx in Das Kapital , therefore model the self- moving thought-forms from Hegel's idealistic theory.

Arthur can be seen as the main representative of the so-called New Dialectics, which can also be viewed as a separate school. This is characterized by the demarcation from Analytical Marxism , which rejects dialectics, and Hegel- Marxist approaches that focus on Hegel's philosophy of history.
