Live and act

The eldest of four children, also the brother of the famous actress Sarah Miles , attended Winchester College from 1953 to 1957 . In 1957, an amateur film made by Christopher Miles as part of the children's program All Your Own was shown as the first 8-millimeter production on British BBC television. At the age of 19, it was reported, Red Chinese authorities arrested Miles, who was currently in the People's Republic of China for a film job, for alleged espionage and interrogated him non-stop for 20 hours. Back in Europe, Miles decided to undergo professional all-round training in film.

He went to Paris in 1961 and attended the renowned Institut des hautes études cinématographiques there until the following year . Back in England, Miles immediately began directing films. Already his short debut, the almost half-hour long love triangle about a woman between two men, The Six-Sided Triangle , earned him an Oscar nomination in 1964 . Then Christopher Miles was also entrusted with directing feature films. But none of his follow-up productions, including The Girl and the Gypsy , which was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1970 , as well as The Pariser Apartment, The Maids and Stay Away from Me , the one with Franco Nero , Mel Ferrer , Glenda Jackson , Susannah York and Roger Moore had a prominent cast, turned out to be a great success with critics or even audiences. In the following years, Miles, whose output for five decades of filmmaking is not exactly abundant, usually turned for television. Since the 1980s, as a filmmaker, he has developed an increasing interest in sports topics, often in connection with historical developments. Miles' last work in 2012 is a one-hour documentary on the occasion of the XXX. London Olympic Games .

Christopher Miles married the painter Suzy Armstrong in 1967. With her he had a daughter named Sophie, who works as a painter and potter. His temporary brother-in-law was double Oscar winner Robert Bolt .
