Christopher Sheppard is a British film producer and film and television director .

life and career

Sheppard initially worked as a journalist and as a consultant for various UN agencies. He was a co-founder of New Internationalist magazine .

Since 1985 he has produced and shot a number of documentaries and initiated several internet projects. From 1986 to 1992 he produced several low-budget documentaries for television, some of which he also directed. Two of these documentaries, Death Of A Runway (1992) and Child's Eye (1995) were nominated for the Royal Television Society Awards. The film Man-Made Famine with Glenda Jackson as spokeswoman, which was made with the support of New International , depicts the economic situation of women farmers in Africa who generate the majority of agricultural production but hardly receive any support from the respective states or international organizations. From 1992 to 1997 he directed five episodes of the television documentary series Cutting Edge . The series received several BAFTA nominations and awards.

In 1990 he founded the production company Adventure Pictures together with Sally Potter . The first feature film that Adventure Pictures produced was Orlando with Tilda Swinton in the title role, which was nominated for two Academy Awards and won other European film awards. Since then, Potter and Sheppard have produced seven feature films together.
