Christopher Warde

Sir Christopher Warde of Givendale, (* 1453 ; † 1521 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Christopher Warde (also Ward) was a son of Sir Roger Ward.

In 1474 he served Henry Percy, 4th Earl of Northumberland and fought under Richard , Duke of Gloucester in 1482 in the campaign against Scotland, where he was knighted by the Duke of Gloucester .

Sir Christopher was sheriff , appointed Justice of Array in 1485, and served as Master of the Hart-Hounds .

During the Wars of the Roses he fought for Richard III on August 22, 1485 . at the Battle of Bosworth . Sir Christopher seemed then with the ruling House of Tudor to have arranged and came in April 1486 at Doncaster to Henry VII. And his entourage on their trip to the North. Nevertheless, Sir Christopher was arrested shortly afterwards because he was suspected of supporting the conspiracy to support Francis Lovel, 1st Viscount Lovel. Sir Christopher did not take part in the revolt that culminated in the Battle of Stoke in 1487 and appeared to have sufficient loyalty to King Henrich. According to some publications, Sir Christopher fought as a standard bearer under Henry VIII in the siege of Boulogne . Since this siege took place long after his death, it is either a matter of confusion, or the siege under Henry VII. 1492 is meant.

In 1513 Sir Christopher fought in the Siege of Norham Castle and the Battle of Flodden Field under Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk .

Sir Christopher died in 1521.

Marriage and offspring

Sir Christopher was married to Margaret Gascoigne, daughter of Sir William Gascoigne of Gawthorpe and Joan Neville.

The couple had three daughters:

  • Anne ⚭ Sir Ralph Neville of Thornton
  • Joan ⚭ Sir Edward Musgrave
  • Margaret ⚭ John Lawrence (Esquire)
