Christopher Wood (writer)
Christopher Hovelle Wood (born November 5, 1935 in London , England - † May 9, 2015 ) was a British writer and screenwriter who was particularly famous for his scripts for the two James Bond films The Spy Who Loved Me (together with Richard Maibaum , 1977) and Moonraker (1979).
Life
Christopher Wood graduated from Cambridge University with degrees in economics and law in 1960 and began working as a writer. He published various novels, many of them under the pseudonym Timothy Lea such as B. the Confessions series, for whose filming he also worked on the scripts from 1974.
Wood wrote the screenplay for the 1977 film published Royal Highness in Japan (Seven Nights in Japan) , in which Lewis Gilbert directed. Gilbert's next project was the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me , and he offered Wood to write the script for the film.
Christopher Wood died on May 9, 2015 at the age of 79.
James Bond
When Christopher Wood began working on The Spy Who Loved Me , he was presented with a script that several writers had already worked on. From this he developed the final script, for which he was named in the credits together with Richard Maibaum . Wood wrote the script for the following Bond Moonraker - Top Secret .
Christopher Wood was the first writer to write novel versions of the James Bond series screenplays. In 1977 the novel version of The Spy Who Loved Me was published under the title James Bond and His Greatest Case . The plot no longer bore any resemblance to Ian Fleming's novel of the same title and was therefore published in the original as James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me . Wood's 1979 novel Moonraker - Top Secret (original title: James Bond And Moonraker ) also bears little resemblance to Fleming's novel Moonraker .
Other works
Wood also wrote the script for the 1985 action film Remo - Unarmed and Dangerous, starring Fred Ward .
In 2006, Wood's book James Bond, the Spy I Loved , his memories of working for the James Bond film series, was published.
