The Christ Church in Brötzingen , a district of Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg , is a Protestant parish church . It was built in 1911/12 according to plans by Heinrich Henz and has replaced the neighboring older church of St. Martin , which was profaned in 1938.

history

Already in 1894 there were demolition plans for the aging old Martinskirche, the original church of Brötzingen. In 1909, church building officer Heinrich Henz planned a new building in the surrounding churchyard to replace it. The original burial of the Brötzingers was in the churchyard until the 19th century. In 1865 the cemetery was abandoned and replaced by the cemetery in the Maihälden. The Christ Church was built on the old cemetery area in 1911/12. At the same time a new rectory was built.

After its completion, the blind organist Ludwig Kühn, who became known nationwide, worked at the church .

The old church of St. Martin was not demolished. Instead, it was used by the Lutheran congregation for some time, profaned in 1938 and now incorporated into the Pforzheimer Heimatmuseum.

The Christ Church is the landmark of Brötzing and at the same time it forms the entrance to the historic town center.

The church has a cruciform floor plan with a tower built on the northeast corner. Inside, the church is designed as a central room, which is oriented towards the altar area with the altar, the pulpit behind it and above it on the circumferential gallery . Behind the pulpit, on the parapet of the organ loft , which is raised at this point and provided with a triangular gable, is an altar painting with Maria and Martha by Hans Schrödter , from whom the colored painting of the church comes. The church also has a late Gothic crucifix that was taken from the old church.

There is a Christ sculpture by Adolf Sautter on the tower .

Fritz Hofmann, then a master student at the Karlsruhe Academy, created the sculpture of the young mourning man , which was erected near the church in 1923 as a memorial for those who fell in the First World War .
