The listed Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church in Gallneukirchen in Upper Austria was consecrated on August 15, 1906. It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Gallneukirchen, which includes the entire middle and north-eastern Mühlviertel (39 political communities).

history

The origins go back to the time 1806 to 1815, when the Catholic priest Martin Boos worked in Gallneukirchen. Because of his sermons, some of the believers turned away from the Catholic faith, the so-called Boosians , from which the Protestant parish later emerged. In 1846 the believers were recognized as a Protestant community and assigned to the parish in Kirchberg-Thening . The parish Gallneukirchen was founded on July 15, 1870, the first curator was Franz Riener from Matzelsdorf. The first pastor was Ludwig Schwarz . Gallneukirchen was a subsidiary parish of Linz until November 19, 1872, after which it was independent. At first the largest room in today's Ludwig-Schwarz House was used as a prayer room.

In 1874 Ludwig Schwarz founded the Association for Inner Mission with the Protestant parish . When looking for suitable specialists to help and care for people in need, the association found what they were looking for among the deaconesses . Thus in 1877 the Evangelical Diakoniewerk Gallneukirchen was founded .

Also in 1874, the former Starhemberg nursing court building was acquired and converted into a rectory. After the renovation, the house was used as a new prayer house. Due to the increasing number of believers, the room became too small, so in 1904 construction of the church began. The church was built according to plans by Karl Siebold from Bethel near Bielefeld . On August 15, 1906, the Christ Church, designed in neo-Gothic style, was consecrated .

In 1925 the community had 890 believers, some of them in Bad Leonfelden , Freistadt and Engerwitzdorf . Friedrich Saul succeeded Ludwig Schwarz from 1916 to 1938. During the Second World War, the branch parishes Krumau and Kaplitz were attached to Gallneukirchen. After the war, the evangelical community began to grow. Therefore, separate services were held in the larger religious communities outside of Gallneukirchen.

Pastor Günter Wagner has been in charge of this pastoral office and the community, which in 2008 comprised 1,365 believers, since 1989.

Church interior

The church has a three-bay, two-aisled nave with a southern gallery . All parts of the room are equipped with ribbed vaults, only the side aisle is square vaulted. The western, three-axis organ loft has a groin vault and rests on granite columns. The small, chapel-like sacristy is in the southeast.

The late historical facility has a neo-Gothic pulpit with evangelist symbols. The organ of the company Hillebrand was built in the 1950s in Hanover and built in Gallneukirchen 1969th The organ has a mechanical action with two manubruses and 17 stops. The pews date from 1906 and are decorated with grapes.

Church exterior

The late historical church is around 25 meters long and 20 meters wide. The buttresses are continuous, and there are small consoles under the eaves. The western gable front has an ogival portal. There are ogival group windows on the nave and choir. The tower is in the southwest, between the nave and the gallery building.
