Kirchberg-Thening is a municipality in the central region of Upper Austria in the Linz-Land district , with 2,435 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The responsible judicial district is the judicial district of Traun .

geography

Kirchberg-Thening lies at an altitude of 357 m in the central region of Upper Austria. The extension is 3.9 km from north to south and 7.4 km from west to east. The total area is 15.9 km². 10.1% of the area is forested, 76.1% of the area is used for agriculture.

Community structure

The municipality of Kirchberg-Thening consists of the two cadastral municipalities of Axberg (736.34 hectares) and Kirchberg (853.63 hectares). The cadastral municipality of Kirchberg occupies the east of the municipality and houses Thening and Kirchberg, the two main places of the municipality. The cadastral municipality of Axberg in the west of the municipality, however, is much less populated. In the north of the municipality in the cadastral municipality of Kirchberg lies the hamlet of Au with the Au settlement in the west and the Rotte Thürnau ( 275  m above sea level ) in the east . In 2001 Au consisted of 41 buildings with 130 inhabitants, Thürnau of 59 buildings with 275 inhabitants. Southwest of Au is the village of Gumpolding ( 290  m above sea level ), which in 2001 consisted of 44 buildings with 146 residents. To the east of this is the village of Kirchberg ( 357  m above sea level ), which in 2001 was the second largest district with 100 buildings and 267 inhabitants. Southeast of Kirchberg is Thening ( 322  m above sea level ), the main town of the municipality, whereby Kirchberg and Thening have almost grown together. Thening was 188 buildings tall in 2001 and housed 675 residents. In the south of the community or cadastral community are also the Rotte Niederbuch and the Niederfeld settlement ( 302  m above sea level ), which in 2001 comprised 24 and 43 buildings and 66 and 112 residents respectively. The districts of Aichberg, Axberg and Schauersfreiling (from west to east) are in the cadastral community of Axberg. Intenham is also located in the south. The hamlet of Aichberg had six buildings and 12 residents in 2001, the village of Axberg ( 374  m above sea level ) 52 buildings and 178 residents and the Rotte Schauersfreilling 18 buildings and 57 residents, while the Rotte Intenham with the Schöllnergut comprised 65 buildings and 212 residents.

Between 2001 and 2011 Au, Thening and Thürnau were able to increase their population numbers. The other districts showed slight increases or slight losses. Thening had 804 inhabitants in 2011, Thürnau 302, Kirchberg 289, Interham 206, Axberg 173, Au 151, Gumpolding 141, Niederfeld 104, Niederbuch 63, Schauersfreiling 51 and Aichberg 12 inhabitants.

history

Thening is mentioned for the first time in 825 in a document from the Mondsee Monastery, Kirchberg only in 1295. The place name Thening is due to a man named Teno .

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria , the area around the villages of Kirchberg and Thening belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century . Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns . Since the tolerance patent of Emperor Joseph II. In 1781 Thening has been a capital of the Protestant Christians in Upper Austria. During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.

Since 1918 the place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Upper Austria. After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the village then belonged to the Upper Danube . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

The municipality name Kirchberg was changed to Kirchberg-Thening with effect from November 1, 1951.

Population development

In 2013, 2,287 people lived in the municipality of Kirchberg-Thening, putting Kirchberg-Thening in the lower mid-range of the 22 municipalities in the district in terms of population. At the end of 2001, 91.1 percent of the population were Austrian citizens (Upper Austria 92.8 percent, Linz-Land district 91.4 percent); by the beginning of 2013, the value fell slightly to 97.4 percent (Upper Austria 91.1 percent, Linz district -Land 89.0 percent). A total of 59 foreigners were counted in the municipality in 2013, 93 percent of whom came from Europe. In addition, a total of 142 people were born abroad. In 2001, 60.9 percent of the population committed to the Roman Catholic Church (Upper Austria: 79.4 percent), 30.2 percent were Protestant, 7.8 percent without confession and 0.3 percent of Islamic faith.

The average age of the community population in 2001 was the national average. 18.3 percent of the residents of Kirchberg-Thening were younger than 15 years (Upper Austria: 18.8 percent), 61.2 percent between 15 and 59 years old (Upper Austria: 61.6 percent). The proportion of residents over 59 years of age was 20.5 percent, just above the national average of 20.2 percent. As a result, the average age of the population of Kirchberg-Thening changed, especially in the younger and middle age segments. The proportion of people under the age of 15 fell to 14.9 percent as of January 1, 2013, while the proportion of people between 15 and 59 years of age increased significantly to 65.4 percent. By contrast, the proportion of people over 59 years of age fell slightly to 19.7 percent. According to marital status, in 2001 39.6 percent of the residents of Kirchberg-Thening were single, 50.4 percent married, 5.4 percent widowed and 4.6 percent divorced.

The municipality of Kirchberg-Thening recorded hardly any population movement between the late 19th century and 1900. Only then did the population increase slightly, which, however, only made up around 11 percent by 1939. As a result, there was strong population growth, especially between 1939 and 1951, after a brief decline the population finally rose continuously. However, growth rates remained below those of the district. While in the 190s the community still had to record an emigration, which could only be offset by a strongly positive birth balance, Kirchberg-Thening has had increasing immigration since the 1980s, which was particularly high in the 1990s and until 2007 was. However, since 2008 there has been a slight emigration from the community. The birth balance has been positive for decades.

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2001 Kirchberg-Thening only housed one company that had 20 or more employees. In total, the workplaces census carried out as part of the census showed 59 workplaces with 275 employees (excluding agriculture), 79 percent of which were employees. Of the 1,118 employed people from Kirchberg-Thening (employed residents without persons temporarily absent from work), only 159 people were employed in Kirchberg-Thening in 2010. 959 or 86 percent had to commute to work. Of the out-commuters, 32 percent had their place of work in the Linz-Land district and 42 percent in Linz. Important commuter communities in addition to Linz were Leonding, Pasching, Wels, Traun and Alkoven. In return, 175 people commuted to Kirchberg-Thening, especially from Hörsching and Linz.

Agriculture and forestry play only a minor role for the community. In 2010, only 39 people or 3.4 percent of the workforce from Kirchberg-Thening were employed in agriculture and forestry. The 2010 statistics for the municipality of Kirchberg-Thening showed 35 agricultural and forestry holdings. These included 18 full-time businesses and 15 part-time businesses. A first school has been handed down in Kirchberg since around 1770, although the school was originally located in today's Musikheim. The building was also used as a rectory and sacristan's house. After the tolerance patent of Emperor Joseph II, a Protestant school was set up in the Weismeierhäusl in Thening in 1783. Between 1783 and 1784 there was a second Protestant school in what would later become the post office. In 1907, a three-class schoolhouse was built in Thening, which is now the rectory. The Protestant private school existed in Thening until 1938, after the Second World War the schools in Kirchberg and Thening were merged. In addition, the Leonding secondary school was located in the vicarage until 1964. The elementary school in Kirchberg-Thening was run in the school year 2013/14 for the first time in six classes and attended by 96 children. The Kirchberg-Thening kindergarten and the Kirchberg-Thening after-school care center are located in the school annex. There is also an AK adult education center in the immediate vicinity, and the community itself operates a community library.

The municipal council as the highest body of the municipality has 25 seats and is elected every six years in the course of Upper Austria-wide municipal council elections. The community board consists of seven members, with the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) having four members since 2009, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) two members and the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) one member. The strongest force in community politics has always been the SPÖ, which between 1973 and 2003 was always able to achieve an absolute majority in mandate and, with one exception, an absolute majority. The SPÖ came up with results between 49.8 and 61.4 percent. During this time, the ÖVP usually took second place, with 20.9 to 30.4 percent. In 1991 and 1997, however, the ÖVP was overtaken by the FPÖ, which otherwise always took third place. The FPÖ achieved 27.1 percent and 7 mandates, the FPÖ 14.8 percent and four mandates and the Greens 0.4 percent and two mandates.

The SPÖ also used the strength of the SPÖ in municipal council elections in state elections. In state elections between 1973 and 2003, the SPÖ achieved first place or between 38.8 and 59.2 percent of the vote. The ÖVP was the second strongest force with 26.2 to 30.6 percent, the FPÖ with 9.9 to 23.6 percent with one exception always third. In the last state election in 2009, the ÖVP was able to overtake the SPÖ for the first time and came first with 37.9 percent. The SPÖ only got 33.2 percent, the FPÖ came third with 14.7 percent. The fourth strongest force was the Greens with 10.7 percent.

The mayor has been determined by direct election since 1997 , with no absolute majority for a candidate in a runoff election . In the mayoral elections, the SPÖ candidate has always been able to prevail, with the SPÖ candidate achieving between 60 and 81 percent.

Official description of the municipal coat of arms : Humiliated divided; above in gold two obliquely crossed maces with red stems and blue heads, below in blue a silver heraldic rose topped with a red heart, inside a gold cross. The municipality colors are blue-yellow-red.

The obliquely crossed maces are taken from the coat of arms of the noble Kirchberg family, who had their seat in what is now the municipality. The Luther rose is a symbol of the strong tradition of the Evangelical Church in Thening.
