Pucking is a market town with 3979 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the central region of Upper Austria . It belongs to the political district of Linz-Land , the responsible judicial district is the judicial district of Traun .

geography

Pucking is at 286  m above sea level. A. The extension is 6.7 km from north to south, and 5.6 km from west to east. The total area is 19.8 km². 19.2% of the area is forested, 61.6% of the area is used for agriculture. Pucking borders in the north on Hörsching and Traun , in the east on Ansfelden , in the south on Neuhofen an der Krems and in the west on Weißkirchen an der Traun and Allhaming .

Official description of the municipal coat of arms : In green, a silver, lowered drawbar with red filling, inside a silver turbine wheel. The turbine wheel stands for the Traun-Pucking power plant. The drawbar refers to the Haid motorway junction in the municipality of Pucking. Design of the coat of arms: Wolfgang Mairinger, Pucking. The community colors are white-green.

history

The history of Pucking can be traced back to Roman times: Even then, there were traffic routes running through what is now the local area. The parish of Pucking is first mentioned in 1289.

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.

Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place. In 2004 pucking was raised to a market town.

Incorporations

In 1784 the village of Sammersdorf was incorporated into Pucking from Weißkirchen an der Traun . In return, the village of Weißenberg, including its castle, was ceded to Neuhofen an der Krems .

Population development

In 1991 the municipality had 2,613 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 3,478 inhabitants. In 2008 around 3,800 people lived in Pucking.

Culture and sights

  • The late Gothic parish church of Pucking has a ribbed vault in the nave and a ribbed vault in the choir.
  • The Gothic branch church St. Leonhard bei Pucking from the beginning of the 15th century shows itself with remarkable frescoes around 1440/1450. It is located in the Sipbachtal and can be reached from the village via an approximately 2 kilometer long pilgrimage trail along a local road.
  • The Traun-Pucking power plant is located in the village of Hasenufer . This hydropower plant is the most powerful of its kind from Energie AG Oberösterreich.

Sports

A local recreational area is the Puckinger See northeast of the town center. There is also a soccer field and a beach volleyball court near Puckinger See.

education

There is a primary school in Pucking, which was rebuilt in 1972 and was connected to the community center "Spectrum" in 2004 by an underground passage, so that there is access to the gym, after-school care center, school kitchen and library. As a preliminary stage to school education, there are two community kindergartens in the local area.

Pucking is located between two motorways, the A1 western motorway in the middle of the market area and the A25 Wels motorway in the north of the market area, but has no motorway connection. There is no train station in the local area, but local public transport is guaranteed by private and public bus companies. The L563, which runs from west to east and connects the villages of Sammersdorf, Pucking and Hasenufer, is an important road traffic connection. The villages of Sankt Leonhard, Sipbach, Zeitlham and Köttsdorf are located in the Sipbachtal and can be reached via local roads and goods roads.

In the community center “Spectrum” there is a library as well as rooms for larger events and for the local associations.

The community has commissioned the Austrian Red Cross to carry out the rescue service in Pucking. The next bases are the local offices in Traun and Neuhofen. A defibrillator was purchased for urgent emergencies, which is kept in the Pucking fire station behind the entrance door.

Volunteer firefighter

After the merger of the former two volunteer fire brigades Pucking and Hasenufer there is only one called "Pucking-Hasenufer" in the municipality of Pucking .

Others

In the market town of Pucking, the first letters of the street names are the same as the first letter (except Schnadt: Sch) of the town name in which the street is located for easier orientation.
