history

The Gothic church was built in the beginning of the 15th century and shows remarkable Gothic frescoes from around 1440/1450.

architecture

A choir with a five - eighth end of the same width connects to the two- bay cross - rib vaulted central nave of the nave . The northern three-bay aisle has a ribbed vault. The south aisle has tracery windows . The end of the choir window is walled up. The other windows have been given a baroque finish . The church exterior shows buttresses . The mighty west tower has beveled corners from the second floor and carries a tent roof. The west portal is Gothic.

The Gothic frescoes can be seen in all the vaults and in the upper third of the nave and choir. The vault ribs show themselves in strongly colored ornamental marbling . Numerous stars can be seen in the vaulted fields. In the vault of the eastern nave yoke there are eight round medallions with symbols of the evangelists and the church fathers , but here instead of St. Ambrose St. To see Bernhard. The north wall of the nave shows the crucifixion, the south wall of the nave shows the scene of the Mount of Olives . The sun and moon are enthroned in the choir vault. On the choir walls are the representations of St. Michael as the weigher of souls and above the group of apostles, on the left St. Katharina, to the right of it St. Barbara, furthermore Our Lady with Child on a crescent moon surrounded by a halo. At the end of the choir, presumably a founder of the church, with a St. Bishop, above Christ, on the left St. Erasmus, on the right St. Bishop, below a cube pattern, above a group of apostles. The frescoes were uncovered in 1946 and restored in 1946/1947.

Furnishing

The baroque high altar and pulpit date from 1720, the altar in the south aisle from 1721, created by Johann Georg Derfler. On the north wall of the nave there is a baroque Maria enthroned with child, probably based on a late Gothic model. The late Gothic statue of St. Leonhard around 1490 between nave and south aisle was restored in 1947. The wrought iron communion grille is from 1720. On the wooden organ gallery and in the south aisle there are late Gothic reliefs from the beginning of the 16th century as loans from the Upper Austrian regional museums , which did not originally belong to this church.
