Chromulina is a genus of golden brown algae (Chrysophyceae) that occursin freshwater. It consists of around 80 species.
features
The representatives are single-celled cells without a cell wall and carry a single flagellum . The cells are not flattened. They have one or two wall-mounted, golden-brown plastids and usually have an eye-spot in the plastid near the flagellum pole. There are also one or two contractile vacuoles . The flagellum is stretched forward when swimming. The cells are also capable of amoeboid movements.
The asexual reproduction is done by simple longitudinal division. Sexual reproduction is unknown.
Occurrence
The representatives of the genus occur in the plankton of standing waters. They also colonize snow fields.
